Best Beachside Campsites

There are two images that spring to mind when you think about camping. The first is a small green clearing surrounded by dense woodland, mountains, lakes and rivers. The second is a sandy plot next to a golden beach, fringed with lemon and olive groves with a good campfire to sit around. It is this second image will want to focus on.

Camping is one of the best ways of enjoying beach holidays. You can instantly fall into that lazy beach life style, feel the salt in your hair and the sand between your toes. Who said you have to stay in a hotel on a beach holiday? On the Beach certainly doesnít and it has a range of beach holidays to choose from that you can package up yourself allowing you to combine cheap flights with affordable campsite accommodation.

But finding that perfect beachside campsite is just as hard as finding the perfect beachside hotel. You want to know what amenities are on offer, how close it really is to the beach and how much itís going to cost you. Here are a few of our favourite European beachside campsites.

Camping Union Lido Vacanze, Italy

This is one of the largest campsites in Europe, but that doesnít mean itís gone for size over value or quality. It is well organised; it boasts a wide range of amenities including several bars and restaurants, and most importantly, it has direct beach access. An added bonus is that itís just a short boat ride from Venice.

Playa Montroig Camping Resort, Spain

This large and well-maintained campsite directly abuts the Costa Dorada. Pinpricked with palm trees and fringed by a vast tropical garden, this campsite is a little slice of heaven. You can even nab a premium camping plot right on the beachfront.

Les Sables díArgent, France

This is a mid-size campsite, with around 150 pitches, but feels very small thanks to the family atmosphere. Camping is almost on the beach, which just happens to be a popular surf spot, giving this region and campsite its relaxed feel. Surrounded by pinewoods, which act as a sound buffer, the campsite is quiet and peaceful, even when the beach gets busy during July and August.
