The Toppola

 Toppola for Sabb 99

The Toppola is a camping unit designed originally for the Saab 99 combi coupé. The removable hatch on the car could be replaced by the Toppola making the Saab 99 combi coupé a car that could be converted into a campervan. The unit when installed provided standing height and sleeping area. Units could be fitted with a complete kitchen and heater allowing use in winter. In later years a version was made to fit the Saab 900, Saab 900 (NG), Saab 9000, Saab 9-3 and Ford Sierra and Scorpio. Production stopped in 2006 but there are still many units in Europe with their proud owners and occasionally one comes up for sale.

What is it, we have called it BikeaVan. A motorhome without the motor well thats the best we can do. No idea just what it is but it looks cheap to run. Looks like the back off a very small motorhome, cut down and welded onto a bike frame. Or could it be built from scratch? Have you seen anything like this or have you any idea where its origins are?  What ever the origins we think it gets our vote as a green and clean camper, and if you are going any distance pedaling it you will sure find that bed handy when you arrive.
